Picnic

Shop 2 60 Toorak Rd
South Yarra 3141
(03) 9866 7988

KID friendly is the best way to describe Picnic on Toorak Rd in South Yarra. Kids everywhere, fussed over by staff, sipping baby chinos and being adored by parents and friends.

Yes, to meet the mum with a toddler, Picnic is the place. They supply cute little wooden chairs that sit over a regular chair so you can strap the munchkin in and safely tuck into a latte.

Brekky is good. Quality, moist bircher was served with a miniature bottle of milk. Very cute.

Eggs benedict with roasted tomato was deemed decent. They didn't overdo the hollandaise sauce which is a plus, according to my husband, who reckons he's an eggs benedict connoisseur.

Our dining partners, locals on first name terms with the owners, ordered their favourite, Tuscan eggs. It's like bruschetta with poached eggs, avocado and tomato and onion salsa heaped on top. Looks healthy and tastes sublime, my dining partner and the mum of the group said.

Staff are kid friendly, happily chatting in baby talk and patting little heads as they whirl past.

And you heard it here first, Picnic is expanding with another opening in Blessington St Kilda and doing it for the kids bayside. St Kilda mums will be happy.

Be warned, if you're sick of babies, don't come here.

Breakfast, baby friendly (maybe too much so).

7/10

I'm so glad I stumbled across this blog! I'm heading to melbourne soon with my boyfriend for his birthday and he's obsessed with crazy little cafes and restaurants with interesting and different and basically delicious food. He's obsessed with the cheese room at Richmond Hill Cafe and Larder

If you can suggest any places we could go for dinner on his birthday that would have delicious food and are a little quirky that would be so great! thanks!!

HI Zoe (good name)
We suggest Birdman Eating in Gertrude St Fitzroy for breakfast, lunch or dinner. In fact there are heaps of gems in Gertrude St including Ladro and the Builders Arms. Take a look at our site under suburb or score to search for more top places to go. And I understand your boyfriend's obsession with the Larder's cheeseroom. Enjoy Melbourne. Kate and Zoe

THOUGHT I would have a great breakfast here as I went to check it out in advance however the food was cold once it finally got to our table and not that great. May just have been a bad day....Guess the 'kid friendly' is not for us...
South Yarra/Chapel St - HIDEOUS for a good breakfast, we go all the way to Las Chicas
